What is Coaching? Coaching is a partnership between you and a coach. The entire focus of coaching is on you. It is designed to help you move forward to do, be and have what you want in life. Coaching starts with the premise that everyone is capable and no one is broken or needs to be fixed. It helps you discover all that you are and can be. Back to Top
What is Choice Theory? Choice Theory is a philosophy based on these premises:
1) The only person we can control is ourselves;
2) All human behavior is a result of an individual trying to meet his or her basic needs; and
3) We are always at choice.
Choice Theory teaches personal accountability in conjunction with releasing the need to control others. Back to Top
How does Coaching and Choice Theory apply to Managing People? Effectively managing people is about building relationships and getting things done through others in a climate that mutually supports employees and employers alike. Since we cannot "make" others do anything, then we need to learn how to create work environments where individual needs are met and employees do their work because they choose to, not because someone is forcing them. Success for all concerned can be the outcome! Back to Top
How does Coaching and Choice Theory apply to Parenting? Parents often feel they must control their children to get them to do things. But typically, the more the parent tries to exert control, the more resistant the child becomes. Learning the principals of Choice Theory and the skills of coaching will help you understand that the parental role evolves from that of teacher and manager when the child is young to that of coach as the child enters the teen years. Successfully navigating this transition will help insure your child's ability to enter the adult world as a responsible, independent individual who is likely to stay happily connected to you forever. Why am I qualified to do this work? I have 17 years of management experience in a large corporation. I have experienced what works and what does not in interacting with employees. I have added to that experience through my professional life coach training and Choice Theory studies. I can help anyone in the workplace create an environment of support and accountability where employees enjoy their jobs, work quality is high and the manager experiences job satisfaction.
Having raised two children who are now well-adjusted, responsible adults, I have experienced the world of parenting. I have had specialized training in the Parent as Coach Approach and have taught many parents this approach and seen it work wonders on relationships. I believe in our kids and know that parenting is difficult, especially in these times. I am committed to supporting parents in learning skills that will help them be all they can be. Our kids deserve nothing less.
I have always had the utmost respect and admiration for teachers and enjoy offering trainings that increase their already considerable skills. By learning the philosophy of Choice Theory and the tools of coaching, teachers can transform their classroom environments and forever improve the lives of their students. Back to Top
